He was Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Lafarge from 1989 to 2003 and Chairman from 2003 to 2007. A graduate of the École Polytechnique and the École des Mines de Paris, Bertrand Collomb is also licensed in French law and holds a Doctorate of Management from the University of Texas. He also founded the Management Research Center of the École Polytechnique.
Bertrand Collomb joined Lafarge in 1975. After having held various responsibilities, including that of Chief Executive Officer of Lafarge in North America from 1985 to 1988, he was appointed Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Lafarge in August 1989. He then assumed the position of Chairman of the Board of Directors from 2003 to 2007.
Bertrand Collomb is also a founding member of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) of which he was President in 2004-2005. He is also a director of Total, DuPont and ATCO. He is a member of the "Institut de France" and was president of the Academy of Moral and Political Sciences.
