Design and Engineering of Green Buildings

Master

Diploma awarded

: Equivalent to a Specialized Master (MS)

Duration of studies

: 2 years

Coordinator

: Sébastien Vaudreuil, Ph.D., ing.

The main objective of the Master is to provide graduates with a solid experience in energy efficiency and help them develop competence in design, calculation, implementation and management of energy efficient buildings.

To do this, the student will acquire advanced knowledge in the eco-design methodology and the methods to achieve it (scientific and technical methods, knowledge of systems, analysis and treatment techniques, etc.) and will supplement their training with interdisciplinary knowledge and skills constituting the UEMF profile (common denominator of all the programmes offered by UEMF).

Faculté Euromed de Génie (FEMG)

In order to enable graduates to achieve the objectives of this training, students must develop and acquire a set of skills - conceived as the ability to use professional and non-technical knowledge and skills in the workplace - in accordance with the educational needs identified in the workplace as follows:

The ability to apply knowledge and understanding of the engineering disciplines underlying energy efficient buildings, particularly in the following disciplines: heat transfer, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, thermal measurements, renewable energies, acoustics, materials, processes and systems / questions / activities in the field.

Ability to analyze and solve complex problems, design complex products (devices, artefacts, etc.), processes and systems to study complex questions in the field of energy efficient buildings, with reference to the following topics: Heat pumps and refrigeration systems, renewable energy systems, thermal design and optimization.

Ability to implement and carry out complex activities using and applying practical knowledge, identifying social, health and safety problems, environmental impact and risks and the economic, industrial and managerial implications corresponding to all legal and regulatory requirements.

In addition to the technical courses, students will receive courses in Euro-Mediterranean communication and culture with the objectives of consolidating the mastery of multilingual skills and of discovering the history and civilizations of the Euro-Mediterranean region.

Required Qualifications:

Based on the study of applications and interviews, this field is open to graduates with a bachelor degree in civil engineering or architecture; a professional bachelor degree in Energy, Process Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Industrial Engineering; or any other graduate with a diploma that provides training equivalent to that of the above-mentioned diplomas.

Academic prerequisites:

A bachelor degree in Science in the aforementioned fields or any diploma recognized as equivalent; Solid foundations in scientific subjects (Physics, Mathematics and IT). Selection is made based on the grades obtained and the interview with members of the admission committee.

Civil engineers as well as architects are targeted by this training. This choice follows a questionnaire survey carried out with organizations involved at various levels in the field of energy-efficient buildings in order to identify the educational needs of the labor market. The survey was conducted between June 1 and July 1, 2017 as part of the PROEMED project to develop a master's degree in energy-efficient buildings in the Maghreb countries. There are 43 organizations responding to the questionnaire, from Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco. The characteristics of the organization consulted and the questionnaire used for the consultation are indicated in the document entitled Stakeholders' Report, available on the Master's website (http://www.uniproemed.it/masterin EEBs / Stakeholders'Report 2017).

The educational needs and expectations of the benchmark labor market are also documented in the stakeholder report. In summary, the Masters in green building engineering are expected to develop the following specific skills:

Solid experience in thermodynamics / heat transfer
Skills in materials science
Skills in the construction of heating systems and buildings
Context of energy savings in buildings
Skills in the field of renewable energies
Skills in energy audit of buildings
Skills in the field of project management
Skills in the field of economics and investment evaluation
Skills in the field of thermo-economic analysis
Non-technical skills
Good ability to read / write in English
Good with numbers
General computer skills (for example, office automation, Internet, etc.)
Communication skills
The ability to work in a team
Analytical and problem solving skills
Decision-making skills
Planning and organizational skills
