Following the fame of his TV show Ushuaïa, he became more involved in protecting the environment and raising public awareness of ecological issues.
In 1990, he created the Ushuaïa Foundation which became, in January 1995, the Nicolas-Hulot Foundation for nature and man, then in 2011, the Foundation for nature and man.
